As the gateway course for the Laidlaw Scholars Research and Leadership Program, this class offers practical and theoretical approaches to ethical community-engaged research leadership. Students will examine their social identities, values, and motivations, linking these to their concepts of ethics, community, and leadership. The course covers leadership skills and frameworks like effective collaboration, team dynamics, and relational leadership. It also explores curiosity, critical thinking, perseverance, and resilience in leadership contexts. Through case studies, literature, and team projects, students will develop skills to analyze power dynamics, navigate value conflicts, and evaluate ethical decisions, preparing them for their summer field research. Course offered through the Hart Leadership Program. Instructor consent required.
