Celebrating Ambassador James Joseph’s new book: Saved for a Purpose

The Hart Leadership Program and The Sanford School hosted a book party to celebrate the publication of James A. Joseph’s new memoir, Saved for a Purpose: A Journey from Private Virtues to Public Values. Friends and colleagues gathered to hear Ambassador Joseph discuss how his personal moral principles shaped his public-service career.

Ambassador Joseph is Emeritus Professor of the Practice of Public Policy at the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University, and for more than a decade has been Leader in Residence in the Hart Leadership Program. He founded the United States – Southern Africa Center for Leadership and Public Values at Duke and the University of Cape Town. He has served in senior executive and advisory positions for four U.S. Presidents, including an appointments by President Jimmy Carter as Under Secretary of the Interior and by President William Clinton as U.S. Ambassador to South Africa.
