The Democracy Fellowship Application Due
All Day Event
The Democracy Fellowship is a collaborative fellowship opportunity for Duke juniors of any discipline or major. The fellowship is jointly supported by the Hart Leadership Program and Polis: Center for Politics. Students apply to the program during the spring semester of their junior year and selected students will serve as Democracy Fellows until their graduation from the Sanford School. Up to four students are selected as Democracy Fellows.
Democracy Fellows should have a passion for making the political experiment known as democracy more representative, just, and effective. The three semester project aims to amplify students’ democracy aspirations and leadership capacity. As Democracy Fellows, students receive a three thousand dollar grant in the summer before their senior year to implement a project of their design and choosing. Additionally, Democracy Fellows participate in a HLP class called the “Democracy Lab” (PPS 564) in the spring of 2021. Polis/HLP will work collaboratively to nurture the PEP Fellows’ political and leadership abilities through engagement with guest speakers and participation in training and mentoring activities centered on running for political office or building careers in public policy.
Click here to access the application. This application is open to current juniors of any major. Interested students should submit their application by Sunday, January 31st at 5PM to receive consideration. Admission to the Democracy Fellows Program will be filled on a rolling basis. The PPS 564 class meets Tuesday and Thursday, 1:45 to 3:00 pm
