Faulkner Fox grew up in West Point, Virginia, a Tidewater mill town of 2,500. She studied French, American, and African American literature as an undergraduate at Harvard, then received an M.A. in American Studies from Yale and an M.F.A in poetry from Vermont College.

She lives with her family in Durham, North Carolina, where she writes and has taught creative writing at Duke University since 2002. Her writing courses are listed with the Hart Leadership Program. She is also a voting rights activist, working toward the full enfranchisement of all North Carolina’s citizens.
