A program launched by former Hart Fellow Laxmi Rajak, Trinity ’15, was recently cited in Borgen Magazine.

The Karsh Mentorship Initiative brings teams of Duke students to Nepal each summer to teach “change-making” skills in secondary schools. A native of Nepal,  Rajak started the program in 2014 as a way to create meaningful educational opportunities for often disadvantaged students. Since then, successive teams of Duke students have worked with approximately 250 students in Nepal, helping them design social impact projects to address issues including pollution and gender discrimination.

During her Hart Fellowship, Rajak worked with Teach for Nepal to evaluate the students’ classroom experiences.
