BIOGRAPHY

Joseph Yan is a sophomore studying Biology (Marine Biology concentration) with a Chemistry minor who grew up between Hong Kong and Canada. He is interested in invertebrate zoology, urban ecologies, and questions in science communication and museum studies. Broadly, he seeks to understand how science fosters connection and regeneration between communities and their ecosystems in contexts like agriculture and conservation. At Duke, he is a Campus Farm field crew member through the OCS Green Devils Intern Program, leads Duke Birding Club and Duke Wild Ones, conducts research on butterfly genetics and hermit crab behaviour, and serves as Promotions Director for the college radio station WXDU. When he has an afternoon to spare, you might spot him taking pictures of bugs, jamming on guitar at Coffeehouse, or screen printing old T-shirts.
