BIOGRAPHY

Kailynn Oliver is a student at Duke University double majoring in Evolutionary Anthropology with a concentration in Human Biology and Global Health on the pre-medical track. She aspires to become a physician dedicated to improving maternal health outcomes and reducing the disparities Black women face during pregnancy and childbirth. Grounded in a deep commitment to health equity, Kailynn is passionate about addressing the systemic inequities embedded within the U.S. healthcare system. In her first year as a Laidlaw Scholar, Kailynn participated in a six-week research experience at the University of St Andrews School of Medicine where she strengthened her global health perspective and developed foundational research skills that continue to shape her academic and professional goals. She is the Founder and President of Student Collective at Duke, an organization she launched to mobilize students in collecting and redistributing essential resources to marginalized communities in Durham, including pregnant women of color and senior citizens. Through this work, she combines service, leadership, and advocacy to advance community-centered impact. Through the Laidlaw Scholars Program, Kailynn aims to further deepen her research skills and expand her impact on equitable healthcare solutions. In the long term, she envisions a healthcare system that is inclusive, culturally competent, and accessible for historically underserved communities. Outside of academics, she enjoys STEM education outreach, reading dystopian and supernatural novels, and spending time with her two French Bulldogs, Caresha and Drake.
