How to Apply for Patman PEP

Applications for Patman 2027 will open Fall 2026.

Patman Application Process

1

Attend Our Info Session

The best way to learn more about the Patman Fellowship is to attend our annual information session. At the information session, you will learn more about the structure of the program and hear from previous Patman Fellows about their experiences.

The information session for Patman 2027 will take place on Tuesday, September 15th at 5:30 PM in Sanford 223 (Rhodes Conference Room). A recording of last year's session can be found below.

If you still have questions, you may email Prof. Andrew Nurkin (andrew.nurkin@duke.edu).

2

Apply Online

The Patman application is a series of short essay responses encouraging applicants to write thoughtfully and concisely about their politically-engaged interests, experiences, and ambitions. All juniors are encouraged to apply.

Applications for Patman 2027 will open in Fall 2026.

3

Register

Once students are accepted, they will receive permission numbers to enroll in the politically-engaged spring gateway course, PubPol 564: Democracy Lab, taught by Professor Asher Hildebrand.

New Patman Fellows also commit to attend an Orientation Dinner in mid-November which provides an opportunity to connect newly accepted Fellows and learn more details about their participation in the program.
