How to Apply for the Hart Fellowship

Applications for the 2025-2026 cycle will open in November 2025.

Hart Fellowship Application Process

1

Attend Our Info Session

The best way to learn more about the Hart Fellowship is to attend our annual information session. A video of the information session for 2024-2025 can be viewed below.

The Info Session provides an opportunity to learn more about the structure of the Hart Fellowship and think boldly about how you might envision your own Hart Fellowship experience.

2

Apply Online

The Hart Fellowship application asks applicants to write thoughtfully and concisely about their interests, experiences, and community ties, as well as to propose a specific community partner and project on which they will work during their 10-month Fellowship. Applicants are strongly encouraged to establish communications with their proposed community partners before applying. All Duke and DKU graduating seniors and recent graduates are welcome to apply.

The 2024-2025 Hart Fellowship application is now closed. Applications for the 2025-2026 cycle will open in November.

Contact Program Coordinator Lee Edelblut (lee.edelblut@duke.edu) with any questions.

3

Interview and Orientation

A small group of finalists from the applicant pool will be invited to interview with the committee over Zoom.

From these finalists, a new cohort of Hart Fellows will be selected. Once the new Fellows are announced, they will participate in pre-departure orientation sessions to support them in crafting their fellowship experiences and to prepare them for their launch in the field.
