Campaign for Doreen Bogdan-Martin for Secretary-General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU)

Abstract

I worked on the campaign for Doreen Bogdan-Martin for Secretary General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). The ITU is a UN agency that sets global internet protocols and is tasked with promoting internet infrastructure development in the global south. I lead research on existing internet infrastructure regimes across sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia and developed policy platforms that connected the campaign’s overarching goal of increasing access for women, rural communities, and low-income people with country-specific dynamics. The campaign helped expose me to the many ways economic development and access to communication can serve profoundly democratic purposes.
