After the implementation of Deng Xiaoping’s economic reforms, China went on the road of rapidly widening income gaps. Today, the nation’s Gini ratio is among the highest in the world. Pew Research, in a 2015 survey, found corruption and income inequality to be the top two concerns of Chinese citizens. In this paper, I seek to explore the linkage behind these two issues.
