Course Description:
What does it mean to lead—and how do life experiences shape the way women lead? In Women as Leaders, students will explore how leadership is understood, expressed, and experienced across a range of contexts. We’ll examine how identity, social environment, and institutional culture influence leadership paths and possibilities. A central focus of the course is how external conditions—people (culture), positionality, power, policies, and practices—shape leadership opportunities and challenges. Through discussion, reflection, and real-world case studies, we’ll consider how women define success, navigate obstacles, and sustain purpose in their leadership journeys. This course is designed for anyone reflecting on their own leadership journey or interested in creating environments where women can thrive as leaders. Students will build their own leadership toolkits through personal reflection, peer dialogue, and conversations with guest speakers—women leaders across sectors who will share insights from their lived experiences.
