How to Apply for LAPI

Applications for LAPI 2026 are now closed!

LAPI Application Process

1

Attend Open Office Hours

The best way to learn more about LAPI is to attend open office hours with Senior Program Coordinator, Lee Edelblut. In these office hours, you can learn more about the program requirements and ask questions relevant to your specific interests.

Lee holds open office hours during the fall semester recruitment period for interested students. Students may also schedule a time to meet with Lee using this link to book an appointment.

2

Apply Online

The LAPI application is a series of short essay responses asking applicants to write thoughtfully and concisely about their creative engagement, policy interests, and hopes for leadership development. Duke sophomores and juniors of all majors are encouraged to apply.

Applications for LAPI 2026 are now closed. Applications for Summer 2027 will open in Fall 2026.

You may contact Lee Edelblut (lee.edelblut@duke.edu), the LAPI Program Coordinator, with any questions.

3

Register

Once students are accepted, they will receive permission numbers to enroll in the spring gateway course: PubPol 213: Arts Policy, Leadership, and Engagement, taught by Professor Andrew Nurkin.

New LAPI Fellows also commit to attend an Orientation Dinner in mid-November which provides an opportunity to connect newly accepted Fellows and learn more details about their participation in the program.
