Patman Application Process
1
Attend Our Info Session
The best way to learn more about the Patman Fellowship is to attend our annual information session. At the information session, you will learn more about the structure of the program and hear from previous Patman Fellows about their experiences.
The Patman 2026 info session will take place in September. A video of the 2024 info session can be found below.
If you still have questions, you may book office hours with Lee, the Patman Program Coordinator, using this link.
2
Apply Online
The Patman application is a series of short essay responses encouraging applicants to write thoughtfully and concisely about their politically-engaged interests, experiences, and ambitions. All juniors are encouraged to apply.
Applications for Patman 2026 will open in early September.
You may contact Lee Edelblut (lee.edelblut@duke.edu), the Patman Program Coordinator, with any questions.
3
Register
Once students are accepted, they will receive permission numbers to enroll in the politically-engaged spring gateway course, PubPol 564: Democracy Lab, taught by Professor Suzanne Katzenstein.
New Patman Fellows also commit to attend an Orientation Dinner in mid-November which provides an opportunity to connect newly accepted Fellows and learn more details about their participation in the program.
