SOL Application Process
1
Attend Our Info Session
The best way to learn more about SOL is to attend our annual information session. At the information session, you will learn more about the structure of SOL and hear from previous SOL Fellows about their experiences.
The SOL 2026 Information Session has already taken place. A recording of this year's info session can be found below.
If you still have questions, you may email or book office hours with Dr. Lucy Ballard, SOL Program Coordinator.
2
Apply Online
The SOL application is a form that asks applicants to write thoughtfully and concisely about their interests, experiences, and community ties. All Duke undergraduate students in their first, second, or third years are welcome to apply. Be sure to review the eligibility criteria on the main SOL page before applying.
Applications for SOL 2026 are now closed. Applications for the next cycle will open Fall 2026.
3
SOL Orientation
Once students are accepted, they will receive permission numbers to enroll in the spring gateway course, “Leading In and With Community.”
They will also commit to attend an Orientation Dinner on November 6th which will be an opportunity to connect with their peers and learn more details about their participation in the program.
