Compendium of Resources and Organizations Working to Advance the Rights of LGBATQ Religious Youth

Abstract

*Due to COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 SOL projects were conducted virtually.

I built a large database connecting queer Muslims across North America to local housing, legal, mental health, and sexual health resources based on the region of the country they lived in. Ultimately, this living document I created served as a guide to help queer Muslims that reach out to MASGD for assistance be able to find resources near where they live. My secondary project involved researching about Transformative Justice in order to better serve the organization’s need for a community-based justice model that didn’t rely on the police to address conflicts that may arise in queer Muslim communities. Many marginalized communities have a strained or complex relationship with the police, and the lack of being able to rely on the State to resolve conflict has led many organizations to look towards justice models more focused on accountability.
