Creating Farm Working Justice in North Carolina

Abstract

“Creating Farmworker Justice in North Carolina” consisted of working with farmworker communities distributed throughout the rural counties of North Carolina. The task included working with attorneys to understand the legal rights of contracted (H-2A/H-2B visas) farmworkers, conducting outreach nights to predominately farmworker locations, creating social media content in English and Spanish to inform farmworkers about their rights, protests, and boycotts, and most importantly, participating in “Theater” where interns perform an organic play that reinforces the ideas of community, love, relationship building and education with farm workers. The project/internship focused on building sustainable relationships with farmworkers ensuring they are aware of their resources and support of the community when encountering conflicts with their rights from growers or contractors.
