Abstract
In the summer of 2022, I worked with the City of Durham to assist them in the implementation of their Participatory Budgeting (PB) Project, a yearslong initiative to democratize some of the city’s budget to increase community engagement, civic trust, and equitable funding. I researched how PB could be envisioned as a potential mechanism to democratize public finance and create a world with more participatory democracy, as well as the role of city government in facilitating change between stakeholders (community activists, citizens, nonprofits, businesses, etc.)
