Photography in Teaching Research Methodology

Abstract

I conducted interviews with all of the students in the Summer Research Initiative and other students participating in summer school.  I began interviewing during week three with three separate group interviews.  The groups were comprised of friend circles in an effort to make them feel as comfortable as possible.  It was also during this time that the students expressed that the only way they would feel comfortable telling the truth is if their remarks remained anonymous.  Therefore, there are no student names in this report and I have attempted to limit identifiers.   Following the group interviews, I did follow-up personal interviews with the students that either seemed reserved to speak in a group setting or said something interesting in the group interview that I needed more information about.  Then I transcribed and coded the interviews for patterns and important comments before beginning this report.
