Witch Hunts & Reproductive Justice and Fundamental Christianity and Domestic Abuse

Abstract

This summer, I mainly worked on conducting research about SAECK billing in NC. I was able to conduct several interviews, mostly with hospital admin staff about how SAECK billing occurs. I have compiled those findings in one presentation. In addition, I have put together two other presentations with my time at InterAct on two issues adjacent to my research that I found as I was doing field work. One presentation explores the issue of reproductive justice vs reproductive choice (commonly referred to in the pro-choice jargon). It compels the audience to understand the differences between the two terms and use reproductive justice as the framework for understanding the systemic issues facing marginalized women in receiving reproductive health. The second presentation is concerning the role of religion, specifically Christian fundamentalism, in perpetuating domestic abuse. It explores the issues of biblical inerrancy, male headship and female subservience, and unpacks the toxic abuse/marital counseling practices found in fundamental groups.
