This fall, 47 Research Service Learning (RSL) students in three classes at the Sanford School of Public Policy started service projects with eight community partners around Durham.
- In PUBPOL 114, twenty-two students focusing on environmental issues recently had orientations with the Eno River Association, The Scrap Exchange, and Carolina Biofuels.
- In PUBPOL 116, sixteen students who are working on women’s issues began their service projects with the Durham Crisis Response Center, the Duke Women’s Center, and the Women’s Center of Durham.
- In PUBPOL 124 / CCS 150, nine students who are studying child and youth issues started working with the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club and YO:Durham.
For all the students, this was the first of ten weeks of service. They will be volunteering 20 hours of their time throughout the semester to explore policy issues connected to their coursework.
