Steven Soto PPS ’17 has been named a Schwarzman Scholar.

The prestigious scholarship funds a year of study at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Soto participated in the Hart Leadership Program’s Political Engagement Pilot Project in 2016.

After graduating from Duke with a bachelor’s degree in public policy and a minor in political science, Soto joined Venture for America to learn how technology and entrepreneurship can combine for social good. He currently works for The Tuesday Company, which designs apps to promote help progressive campaigns and causes.

As a civic technologist, he hopes to use purposeful technology and design to strengthen democracies around the globe. Soto is the first person in his family to go to college and received the William J. Griffith University Service Award as an undergraduate.
