Kathryn Whetten, research director of the Hart Fellows Program, was featured on WUNC’s “The State of Things.” The episode covered the ways children think, feel, and cope with stress. Whetten discussed their research on training local people with no mental health background to conduct Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Part of a five-year $3.4 million grant from the National Institute of Mental Health, the intervention is intended to help orphans in countries with limited access to mental health care.

The WUNC broadcast was an adaptation of several episodes of Sanford’s Ways & Means podcast. Each podcast episode delves into bright ideas for how to improve society. Listen to Whetten’s interview here.
